Moab, Utah: Elephant Canyon in Needles District of Canyonlands (May 2001)

Joan and I did a nice long day hike to Druid Arch in the Needles district of Canyonlands National Park. The route starts in open country, but then drops into Elephant Canyon which gets prettier and prettier as one approaches the arch.

Joan Hutchinson on the final steep climb toward Druid Arch. One doesn’t see this arch until one is right beside it.
This large and unusual arch marks the end of the trail in Elephant Canyon. It is 7.5 miles from the Squaw Flat campground, but only 5.5 from the Elephant Hill parking lot. We went in the first way an dout the second.
