Escalante, Utah: Spooky and Peek-A-Boo Canyons (March 1997)
After a trip to Lake Powell on a boat, we (Tom and Sue Whitesides, Phil Hage and Kathy Franzen, and Joan Hutchinson and me) spent a couple days in Escalante. This was my introduction to the spectacular sandstone of the Escalante area.
Peek-A-Boo is one of the amazing small slot canyons on the Dry Fork of the Coyote, not too far from the town of Escalante. Spooky Canyon is a short, but spectacular slot canyon, easily accessible from the Hole-in-the-Rock road.My favorite portrait of my wife, Joan Hutchinson; in the middle of Spooky Canyon. This was a quarter-second exposure, with a tripod.Don’t tread on me! A resting bull snake (I think) in Spooky Canyon.
