Here are images of some of the steepest and most elegant lines that I am familiar with. A couple are very famous, but too steep for me to ski them (Moonshine, Big Eyes, Lemming Drop). But I feel fortunate to have been able ski essentially all the others here.
Peak Z. The Zebra Stripe is the narrow couloir descending directly from the summit. Jonathan Kriegel and I went over the summit (left to right) and skied the broader line starting from a flat spot just below the summit. This excursion was the only time I camped overnight in the Gore Range. Photo by Joel Paula from an airplane. The Deming Drop: the couloir starting just right of the summit in this view. Photo taken from Red Peak. The east face of West Deming. The line descending directly from the summit has been called the Lemming Drop. Bruce Allen and I skied the line (I call it Seldom Flat) dropping from the shallow saddle south of the summit. The classic north couloir on Buffalo Mountain, a stone’s throw from my house.Steep lines on the east face of Argentine, nicely accessible from below Guanella Pass. The north face of Torreys, with the Tuning Fork descent prominent. The Ribbon on Grays Peak starts a few feet from the summit. It is rarely in shape to ski.Cristo Couloir on Quandary, viewed from North Star. The north face of Crystal Peak; the usual ski line is west of the summit. The north face of Silverheels offers several excellent lines.CC Rider is the prominent long couloir between Peak C (left) and Peak C’.Big Bad Wolf drops from just looker’s left of the summit of Red Peak in the Gore. The summit is at the right end of the ridge, known as Red Diamond Ridge. The Heavenly Couloir on Valhalla in the Gore. We had to ski the bed surface after the avalanche. The exquisite north face of Sayres Peak.North Mt.Massive is the 14er in the middle and Luna Couloir is barely snow filled, lookers left of the summit. The following year it was wonderfully full of snow in June, for a great descent. What Big Eyes You Have is the narrow couloir at looker’s right of the summit of East East Red.The north face of Jacque Peak, the main ski line being looker’s right of the summit.
