Golden Bear Peak (Peak 13010)
This 13010-foot peak is between Coon Hill and Hagar, on the Continental Divide north of the Loveland Ski area. It seems to be known as Golden Bear Peak. I’ve often thought of it as Tri-County Peak since three counties, Grand, Summit, and Clear Creek come together just north of the summit. On May 25, 2010, Jonathan Kriegel and I climbed it from Dry Gulch; very straightforward. We skied the east face, dropping in just north of the summit. Conditions were firm, but excellent for skiing. This is a nice alternative to Hagar when either there are other parties on it, or one wants a slightly shorter day. The views of Snoopy (aka Citadel) from the summit are outstanding. I did not take my camera this day, so no pics. But here is a shot taken from Hagar area a few days later. The line we skied is dead center of photo.
On May 22, 2013, Rich Seeley and I skied Golden Bear and conditions (and views) were fine.
On April 6, 2023 I went up with Randy Garrison, Peter Crisci, and Mike Foster. Mike was on a splitboard and found a very nice line.
