Spreading Dogbane; Apocynum androsaemifolium

A nice large group is on the Mesa Cortina Trail, 400 yards beyond the elbow-junction with Leopold Trail, on both sides, but mostly on the left. I have also seen them along the Perimeter Trail at the Frisco Peninsula, and also above the aforementioned spot near the ditch. Also in British Columbia near Golden.

Before the flowers come out the stalks look like small aspen trees, as the leaves are very similar.
